My Middle School Mix Tape
wheniwasakid:
A list of songs I would have included on a mix CD, circa 1996 - 1998. Pretty much exclusively rap and R & B.
1. “Mo Money, Mo Problems” by Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy and Mase — Still one of the catchiest songs ever.
2. “We Tryin’ to Stay Alive” by Wyclef and The Refugee All-Stars — The Carnival was a seminal album for me and this was my favorit song on it.

Harold teams are a lot like rock bands:
The good ones always claim full ownership of their work. Even if the quality of the work falls short of being good, the group always puts their stamp on it. The identity and sensibility of the team/band is always clear and unmistakable.

Phone Call to the Office #1
MAN: You got the 4:20 show playing there?
ME: Yup, it's playing on Monday, the 20th at 9:30 PM.
MAN: What is that? Like stand-up or some shit?
ME: Not really. It's a bunch of comedians doing bits about 4/20 and stuff. So, it's not really stand-up comedians doing their routines.
MAN: A'ight...
ME: Yup...
MAN: So... Is it 4/20 friendly?
ME: What do you mean?
MAN: (enunciating) Is it 4/20 friendly?
ME: I'm not sure what--
MAN: You see, 4/20 is a date, right? And it's like National Hemp day or some sh--
ME: I know, I know--
MAN: So what I wanted to know was--
ME: No, you can't smoke up in the theater.
MAN: It's the 4/20 show though, right?
ME: You still can't smoke in the theater.
MAN: (disappointed) A'ight... (Hangs up.)

Some Improv Thoughts
Elements of the Scene:
WHO: Relationship — Who are the people in the scene? Who are they to each other?
WHAT: Activity — What activity are they doing together or separately? What context is this relationship existing in?
WHERE/WHEN: Location/Time — Where/When is the scene taking place? Time is a choice just as specific as location — a scene that takes place in a 1901...
This is great. A little robot can only move forward, so it depends on strangers to help it to its destination.
