Corazon Aquino, the leader of the “People Power” revolution that overthrew President Marcos from power in The Philippines, passed away to colon cancer today.
It’s weird to think that for almost 15 years, my parents and grandparents lived under Marcos’ dictatorship. I was born into it and lived under the regime too for almost 3 years. Naturally, I don’t remember a lot of it. One of the things I do remember from that time was waking up to go to school and being told that there would be no school — there was, I found out later on, a military coup in progress. To me, all it meant I got to sleep in and play with my toys for the entire day.
