This Will Only Interest Dom Manzolillo and Nick Mendillo: Part 1
Don’t read this if you aren’t Dom or Nick. You’ve been warned.
I got busy in October and November, so I only finished playing the World Series in MLB10: The Show. I faced the Arizona Diamondbacks (102-60 regular season record, surprisingly). They had home field advantage, since I lost the All-Star game this year.
Game 1:
CC started, but couldn’t get out of the 4th inning. (3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 5 Ks. He struggled during the playoffs, posting an ERA over 6.00) Meanwhile, D-Backs starter Justin Duchscherer started well, only allowing 3 runs through the first 6 innings. My bullpen — Hughes, Robertson, Marte, and Wood — stitched together 3 2/3 innings to keep it close going into the final innings. Duchscherer and the rest of the D-Backs pitching staff eventually imploded, giving up a game-tying homerun to A-Rod in the 7th, then allowing 6 runs in the 8th, and 2 more in the 9th. Alfredo Aceves and Joba Chamberlain kept it exciting, though, by allowing 4 runs combined in the 9th, but Mo came in to shut the door for a one out save.
FINAL SCORE: 14 NYY - 10 ARI
PLAYER OF THE GAME: A-Rod — 4 - 5, 1 HR, 5 RBI
Game 2:
AJ Burnett started and did a better job than CC keeping the D-Backs offense in check. (7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 6 K.) Edwin Jackson, however, did an even better job of shutting down my line-up. After 6 innings, they led 2 - 1 and tacked on an insurance run going into the 7th, making it 3 - 1. In the top of the 7th, though, after I cut the deficit to one run, A-Rod hit a 3-run blast (off of reliever Juan Gutierrez) to deep left center field, giving the Yanks a 5 - 3 lead. Dave Robertson and Damaso Marte held the lead in the 8th before handing it over to Mariano Rivera (1 IP, 0 H, 2 K) for the save.
FINAL SCORE: 5 NYY - 3 ARI
PLAYER OF THE GAME: A-Rod — 1 - 4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
