Sometime this summer, I emailed a bunch of musically-inclined people in the community to take part in a music project I was putting together called “UCB Record Club.” It was inspired by the fantastic Beck’s Record Club, which was “an informal meeting of various musicians to record [i.e. cover] an album in a day.” More:The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. A bunch of us got together in late September and actually did this. We recorded 6 songs from the 1998 compilation MASTERPIECE Now That’s What I Call Music Vol. 1. We didn’t finish the entire album (we only recorded 6 songs) and we made a loud mess, but it was a blast and we plan to do this again soon.
